Tenrikyo-Ofudesaki - Why Poetry
Poetry presents the human imagination with "another way of knowing" by employing commonly understood words and linguistic constructs in uncommon ways.
Sometimes our brain processes poetry right away and we are immediately moved from the common to the uncommon. At other times poems require that we engage in deep reflection in order to find the connections and meanings in a poem.
Poetry then is the ideal medium of communicating the new and uncommon when and where ordinary language fails to make the desired point.
